A Faster Recovery After Hip Replacement Surgery

PreActiv user Hildur, aged 76, wowed her consultant at her six-week post-op appointment thanks to her speedy recovery following a hip replacement surgery in September 2025.

“He said I was one of his best patients, that is my progress and return to walking was excellent,” she said.

“I also saw my physiotherapist the same day and she said she was amazed at my recovery. She said she could not remember a quicker recovery.”

Individualised Digital Prehabilitation

When Hildur was told she needed a hip replacement, she felt determined to get healthier and stronger for her operation.

Enrolled on the PreActiv digital prehabilitation platform, Hildur began her prehabilitation course.

Her programme was built to her surgery date and included individualised orthopaedic exercises tailored to her operation type, alongside educational resources on prehabilitation, nutrition, and mental wellbeing.

The flexibility of exercising at home made it enjoyable, and Hildur reported feeling highly motivated by the programme. She also felt well supported by the PreActiv team throughout her journey.

“I really enjoyed my programme,” she explained, “I got into the sessions and quickly felt the improvement.”

The PreActiv digital prehabilitation platform can be accessed anytime, anywhere, allowing users to complete exercises flexibly at home.

Improvements in Strength and Mobility Before Hip Replacement Surgery

In just four weeks, Hildur noticed significant improvements in her health and mobility.

“My general comfort level after the course was greatly better than it was at the beginning,” she explained.

“My limp was reduced and my thigh on the bad hip was much stronger. I used to have to lift my thigh with my arms to get into bed. By the end of the course I didn’t need to.

“This was a pleasing surprise to me.”

Post-Operative Recovery Following Hip Replacement Surgery

Hildur underwent hip replacement surgery in September 2025, impressing her physiotherapist with her determination and prehabilitation habits.

“I had an excellent post-op physio who was very impressed by the PreActiv programme,” she explained.

“I had been given an exercise plan by the physio and when I saw her 16 days post op she was very pleased with me as I was walking with more confidence and not having to step twice on each step of the stairs.

“By the end of fourth week I had stopped using crutches and walking more or less normally. Both my consultant and physio were very impressed with my recovery.”

Life After Hip Replacement: Returning to Everyday Activity

Since surgery, Hildur continues to follow her rehab plan and is increasing her activity levels.

She recently walked 2.3 miles in the Cotswolds with her family, and last weekend she walked over 3 miles in the countryside near her home.

“I want to thank PreActiv for getting me so much fitter pre-op. I know I could not have done this without their help,” she said.

Why Digital Prehabilitation Matters for Hip Replacement Patient

Hildur’s story demonstrates the benefits of digital prehabilitation for patients preparing for hip replacement surgery.

By utilising individualised, dynamic digital prehabilitation, PreActiv removes barriers to prehabilitation and widens access to effective preventative care, supporting patients to recover faster, reduce complications, and regain independence sooner.

Empowering patients to take control of their recovery and feel confident heading into surgery.
